When driving a box truck and keeping the gas pedal at a constant 35-45% and it starts to lose power or refuse to shift and starts coasting. That’s where I am right now, stuck 2 hours away from home. update: I got a ride home, no longer my problem.
waiting on another truck so we can off load this into that and relinquish broke truck to rental agency to fix.
What a way to start a 3 day weekend.
Ford E350 auto. Made 02/15 with 25,000 miles.

Engine derate. Probably emissions related unless you’re having issues going into forward or reverse. At which point your transmission has decided not to work ever again.

Well, if it’s an older box truck with an E4OD transmission in it, it has just murdered or finished murdering itself, probably. There’s an orifice in the trans that under some circumstances doesn’t pass enough fluid - particularly on a tilt - and can lead to the destruction of the clutches, etc.
The other possibility might be serious engine vacuum leak - an intake manifold or something of that kind. Maybe.
Your description is hard to parse, but I’m not sure how to get a clearer picture, since trans death can seem a whole lot like engine weakness under some circumstances.

It’s been doing this stuff this week. Jefferson City is hilly and it would cut out going up hills, I swear I’m not trying to break it. I can still drive it, but just getting on hwy up an incline at about 50 it cut out and started coasting to about 30 mph, even down shifting didn’t do anything.
This is an 02/15 truck with 25K

I mean, it
shouldn’t
break but age does stop any of them from screwing up.

If there’s no CEL, may well be the trans. I’m not an expert, though.

No CEL, the thing just does what it wants.

But this is what is frustrating, we rent these trucks so they don't break down. Oh well screw it. Life's a bitch sometimes.

Try banging on the cat with something. Not common on a newer vehicle but can’t hurt.

I called budget, they are sending someone to tow it in the morning. I got a ride home. No longer my problem
I’ve never heard of banging on the cat. Does that listen up the particles in there or something?
Thanks though.

Yeah I believe so. I had a 97 Ram 2500 years ago, acted the same way. Tapped on the cat with a crow bar boom full power again. Shop confirmed later, cat was internally rotted.
